The Weather Lottery, a British online gambling company that specialises in developing ties with football clubs appears to be in trouble with one of its associates, the Rangers football club, over non-payment of profits to the tune of GBP 29 000.
The gambling company is now being taken to court in a bid to recover the missing money.
Rangers signed up The Weather Lottery (TWL) last year to run online venture Rangers FC Lotto. The weekly game, linked from the club’s official website, was meant to help raise funds for the club’s youth set-up.
But Rangers claim they haven’t been paid GBP 29 000 from profits on the lottery game and a linked football betting site called FCBetz.
It is not the first time that TWL has hit the headlines in a negative way; in January this year the firm was rocked by a fraud scandal involving two employees – managing director Keith Milhench and employee Amie Pickersgill-Smith – who were charged with stealing GBP 80,000 of jackpot funds. Both pleaded guilty and are to be sentenced soon.
Unconfirmed reports are that TWL has been looking for new investors to help settle the GBP 80,000 due to former lottery winners.
Rangers’ case against TWL was called at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week but remanded until next month after Sheriff Ian Miller found there was confusion between who should be defending the case. The court heard that TWL and FC Betz should be listed as separate defenders.
