Wally Sombero, the former police officer and alleged “facilitator” for online gambling mogul Jack Lam, returned to the Philippines this week after apparently reaching a deal that will keep him out of jail on allegations that he attempted to bribe senior immigration officials and even the country’s Justice Secretary, Vitaliano Aguirre (see previous reports).
According to reports by CNN, Sombero continued to deny the allegations against him when he arrived back in the Philippines, saying:
“For me there’s no bribery. I did not offer anything. I have never been involved in any wrongdoing.”
That appears to contradict the evidence of the Justice Secretary at a recent Senate hearing, in which Aguirre claimed that Sombero offered him P100 million to serve as a “protector” of Lam and his assets.
