Online gambling group to support professional sportsmen

Online gambling group Betway has inked an agreement to contribute to ongoing athlete education initiatives about the dangers of match fixing, partnering up with the Professional Players Federation (PPF), a body dedicated to promoting, protecting and developing the collective interests of professional sportspeople in the UK.
The tie-up will see the online bookmaker contribute to sports betting integrity educational initiatives undertaken by the PPF, which over 5,000 professional sportsmen and women benefit from each year.
The support provided by Betway through the long-term agreement will help fund specially trained tutors and customised e-learning programmes to allow delivery of critical training to athletes about the dangers of match fixing, a Betway presser explained.
CEO Richard Akitt said: “Sport in the UK has a phenomenal record of stamping out match fixing, but we are all aware of the dangers and temptations that young professional sportspeople face.
“We therefore look forward to supporting the vital work the Professional Players Federation carries out for many years to come.”
PPF Chairman Brendon Batson OBE said: “Education for athletes is one of the best defences against the threat of match fixing and it’s great to see another leading betting company supporting this important work.
