The British Columbia Lottery Corporation, a corporation owned by the provincial government, has reported a record breaking fiscal year, with online gambling making a useful contribution.
The Lottery’s fiscal 2017-2018 report shows that overall revenue of Cdn$ 3.27 billion was Cdn$ 123 million higher than fiscal 2016-2017 revenues, with net income rising Cdn $61.5 million to a record Cdn $1.4 billion.
Online operations at the corporation’s PlayNow.com saw revenues increase 14.5 percent year-on-year to Cdn$ 180.6 million, boosted by the launch of more games, sports betting options and live dealer gambling earlier this year.
The Lottery continued to invest in the online PlayNow, allocating capital of Cdn$ 4.1 million during the year – more than treble that spent in the preceding year.
Actual lottery revenues remained flat at around Cdn$ 1.13 billion, whilst the land-based casino and community gaming operations generated Cdn$1.95 billion, with slots remaining the biggest cash cows – revenues up 7 percent at Cdn$ 1.37 billion.
