With the current spring session of the Illinois Legislature now closed, it is clear that for now at least no progress has been made on an online gambling legalisation measure stripped from a land gambling bill earlier this year.
The proposal was circulated around the legislature as a stand-alone bill prior to formal introduction .
With a hectic schedule and priorities such as a heavy pension fund deficit to capture their full attention, Illinois lawmakers gave the proposal little chance of gaining traction, and it died without even being introduced as the session closed.
In related news, the latest legalisation initiative in Massachusetts has also apparently failed – dropped from the state budget debate as unconstitutional.
