John Pappas, the usually well-informed executive director of the Poker Players Alliance, has revealed that the House Judiciary Committee will not advance the Restoration of America’s Wire Act banning online gambling in the ‘lame duck’ session as Congress winds down in the current season.
Pappas noted on Twitter:
“Inside info, planned Internet #poker hearing in House Judiciary cmte has been pulled. Need to remain vigilant for other lame duck actions JP”
Pappas’ comment comes amid other reports this week that the committee is unlikely to progress the controversial banning proposal introduced earlier this year by Rep. Jason Chaffetz, a Utah Republican inspired by land gambling billionaire Sheldon Adelson.
