Answering a question in the Malta parliament Tuesday, Emmanuel Mallia, the Minister for Digital Economy on the Mediterranean island and online gambling hub revealed that the government expects the online gambling industry to generate tax revenues of Euro 56.7 million in 2016, up from Euro 55.8 million last year
The government’s take includes a tax on income and VAT generated by the industry and ancillary services, and the minister revealed that the sector generated around Euro 700 million in economic activity, making a 10 percent contribution to the overall island economy….an increase of 3.7 percent over 2014.
269 iGaming licences were issued in 2015, along with slightly more remote gaming licenses at 88, the minister reported.
