Online lottery owner fights WIPO order

A World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) order that an online lottery operator surrender the domains lotteryworks.com and lotterystore.com to Italian lottery operator Lotto Sport Italia SpA is being contested in an Arizona federal court by online developer and would-be operator David Dent.

Dent has filed case CV 17-651-PHX-JWS for hearing by Judge John Sedwick, contesting the WIPO finding that he infringed the Italian firm’s trademark, and claiming that he should therefore be allowed to continue to hold and use the domains.

Local reports indicate that Dent is a software developer with ambitions in the online gambling industry in jurisdictions where such activity is legal.
