The Supreme People’s Procuracy in Vietnam has announced that 63 individuals arrested in the break up of a major online sports betting ring in northern Vietnam earlier this year are to stand trial soon.
Among them are To Cong Hung (34) director of Dream Weavers Online Services JSC based in Ho Chi Minh City, and five accomplices who have been accused of managing the illegal enterprise.
Prosecutors will lead evidence showing that the ring’s website was operated from offshore servers and generated more than VND487 billion (US$21.8 million) wagered by gamblers in Vietnam between 2012 and 2015.
Bets were made on soccer, basketball and tennis games, the state will allege. There were also online poker games.
Hung is accused of sending around VND20 billion in bet money to various accounts at Chinese banks, and to have earned about VND4.3 billion from running the illegal services in Vietnam.
