The Greek betting group OPAP is hoping that its online gambling venture, scheduled to get into gear this year in partnership with GTech, will help boost its disappointing recent results (see previous reports).
In its latest annual report covering operations throughout 2013, the company says that sportsbetting will receive priority in the online venture, followed by online casino games and poker.
OPAP has government approval to run what is almost a monopoly on internet gambling through to 2030, giving it a substantial long-term advantage over the 24 other operators to whom the Greek government has issued ‘temporary’ operating permits in a strategy that is being interpreted as a bid to keep the European Commission happy.
