The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation, a provincial government-owned entity in Canada, included online gambling numbers in its overall review for fiscal 2016-2017 this week, reporting that revenues continued to grow in year-on-year terms, reaching Cdn$ 58.4 million – a y-o-y rise of 18.7 percent over 2015-2016.
Overall, OLGC revenues topped Cdn$ 7.5 billion, derived mostly from lottery sales of Cdn$ 3.7 billion and land casino activity, which delivered Cdn$ 3.6 billion.
The company’s online operation PlayOLG.ca has offered online casino and lottery action since mid-2015, but the annual review does not break down revenues between the two verticals.
However, it notes that profit from online operations rose a remarkable 84 percent to Cdn$ 27.4 million, thanks mainly due to tight cost controls and a double digit rise in active players of 16 percent.
