The rather laissez faire approach to online gambling that is currently the case in Peru could change if the national gambling regulator La Dirección General de Juegos de Casino y Máquinas Tragamonedas (DGJCMT) has its way…the head of the organisation has renewed its push for legislation bringing more clarity to the market.
Speaking to a local publication this week, DGJCMT chief Manuel San Román Benavente said he has recommended to the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism that online gambling be confined to companies registered and present in Peru.
He revealed that his regulatory organisation has collaborated with the national financial intelligence department in drafting a legislative proposal regarding the licensing and regulation of online sports betting and casino gambling for the Ministry’s approval and submission to the Peruvian Congress.
Benavente said that the proposals include regulations governing sponsorship, advertising and promotions, local domain registrations, and enforcement measures against unlicensed operators that include ISP-blocking and possibly financial transactions interference.
