Philippine police anti-cybercrime officers have arrested 10 South Korean nationals for allegedly operating an illegal online gambling site in an upmarket Manila apartment complex, the Associated Press news agency reports.
Police spokesman Senior Superintendent Gilbert Sosa told AP Wednesday that the eight men and two women detained in the raid were operating from two luxury apartments, and that the raid was mounted following a request from South Korean enforcement agencies seeking Philippines cooperation.
The raiding party seized phones, identification cards, computers and network devices as evidence in the operation.
Those arrested are alleged to have fled a similar online enterprise in Seoul, South Korea and switched their illegal online gambling operations to Manila. Police claim that the illegal online enterprise receives payments from Korean bettors via online banking and credit cards.
Two of the arrested men are reportedly fugitives from the South Korean police.
