Urged on by President Rodrigo Domingo, the national Philippines police force has clearly upped its anti-illegal gambling effort this year, reporting that over the past ten months it has mounted well over 12,000 police enforcement actions and arrested 23,823 individuals.
The report did not give details of how many of those detained were actually convicted, or distinguish between illegal land activity and online action, but police spokesmen said that P 7, 985, 204.75 worth of cash bets and gambling paraphernalia were confiscated in the raids.
PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Dionardo Carlos, said 16 police chiefs from six police regional offices were relieved of their duties due to negligence or failure to curb cases of illegal gambling in their jurisdictions.
