Omni‐channel sports betting solutions Playtech BGT Sports has announced record turnover for bets taken at Wimbledon this year.
With PBS’ next generation self‐service betting terminals (SSBTs) continuing to be a dominant force in retail due to their extensive range, convenience and ease‐of‐use, its growth in mobile‐based betting has been the most significant, forming an increasingly key part of the company’s growth strategy.
Tennis throughout Wimbledon saw exceptional turnover growth of over 50% across all PBS channels with more than £9m staked in total during the tournament and mobile leading the way with over 300% growth year‐on‐year.
Proving particularly popular is PBS’ BetTracker app, allowing customers to place their bet in‐shop and then track its progress and even cash out from the comfort of their home.
Available on both Apple and Android, it has been designed to bring the convenience of online to the retail betting experience, allowing customers to scan a ticket to the bespoke app and monitor its progress, whenever and wherever they want. Customers can then return to a shop and receive their winnings in cash.
Playtech BGT Sports’ Senior Commercial Director, Lee Drabwell, said: “While our continued growth in bets taken on our SSBTs come as no surprise, the exponential growth in popularity of our mobile‐ based betting was ace and knocked our forecasts out of the court.
