PMU separates online and retail business

News on 3 Dec 2015

A complaint laid with France’s competition authority, L´Autorité de la concurrence, by Betclic Everest in 2013 has progressed with the news that Pari Mutuel Urbain (PMU) will separate its online horserace betting business from its retail sector as of December 10, 2015.

At the time, Betclic claimed the former monopoly had a competitive advantage over new entrants into the market as PMU pooled its bets from both online and retail (including the international market) increasing the betting pot by almost tenfold and enabling it to offer far more competitive offers to its customers such as stable odds, no restrictions on betting amounts and high payout games such as Quinté+.

PMU promises both retail and online customers a new diversified online offer from December 10, 2015 that it says will simply mirror each other but be reported as individual sectors and pools separated.

A duplicate range will be available across both sectors but the internet sector will be preceded by “e-“ such as e-Quinté+ on PMU.fr and Quinté via retail.

New services to both on and offline customers will include access to information such as volume of stakes the most played combinations and betting odds.
