Pokerstars has taken the plunge, releasing its sportsbook in the UK market and accepting bets on football, tennis, basketball, ice hockey, rugby union, handball, and volleyball, with more promised soon.
The new vertical is accessible via the Pokerstars 7 client, and mobile punters are catered for on both iOS and Android app formats.
The sportsbook has been undergoing extensive beta testing since March this year, and Pokerstars parent Amaya Gaming recently reported that cross-over marketing has produced very encouraging results. The vertical will also be augmented by daily fantasy sports action once the company has mastered that genre.
Amaya CEO, David Baazov, has on numerous occasions explained in company statements and interviews that the introduction of online and live dealer casino and sportsbook activity to Pokerstars and Full Tilt is part of a corporate strategy to pursue international growth by offering internet and mobile gamblers a variety of choices
“Amaya intends to acquire new customers and gain online gaming market share through the continued expansion of the B2C business in other verticals, including sports betting, casino, social gaming, and daily fantasy sports, which we expect will supplement our current growth plans for our core poker business,” he has explained.
