India’s Police in the provincial capital of Punjab have reportedly arrested over 15 bookmakers in a crackdown across the city, saying action would continue against illegal bookmakers and gamblers.
Laptops, telephones and registers were confiscated in the raids.
In related news, Bangalore’s Central Crime Branch arrested Muneer Pasha and Sadiq Pasha for allegedly taking bets on the cricket match between India and South Africa seizing Rs. 34 000 in cash, seven mobile phones and a laptop.
Abhishek Goel, deputy commissioner of Police revealed that the men were involved in an inter-State gambling racket where they collected bets on behalf of a Rajasthan-based bookmaker only identified as Rajesh.
