Following Portugal’s entry into force of new online gambling law this past weekend (see previous reports), its gambling authority Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) has published the necessary rules and requirements for the game and online wagering.
The SRIJ invites all stakeholders to participate on proposed rules and regulations within the next 10 days, saying it expects to release definitive technical requirements in the second week in August.
Relevant securities and tax rates are expected to be published in Portugal’s Official Gazette within this week.
The Portuguese Government expects to raise upwards of Euro 25 million during 2015 with the implementation of regulated online gambling, planning to distribute the proceeds between the State, cultural activities and prevention and treatment of addictions.
Despite heavy criticism from Portugal’s terrestrial operators who fought for exclusivity in offering online gambling, the Government said it aims to attract as many International operators as possible.
