The US state of Louisiana, which has a reputation for being fiercely anti-online gambling, has double standards when it comes to horse racing, it appears.
Empowered by federal law exemptions that permit wagering over the internet on horse racing, the state this week approved online and telephone wagering on horse races in Louisiana, Associated Press reports from Baton Rouge.
The law was contained in HB420 proposed by Democrat representative Ledricka Thierry, and passed by 28 to 6 in a final state Senate vote. It is now on its way to the governor’s desk for signature.
