Indonesian police officers from the Yogyakarta station created a major furore Monday when they acted hastily following mistaken public complaints that online gambling was occurring on a business premises.
Certainly there were non-gambling mobile games under development at the premises, owned by Gameloft, when undercover police arrived to inspect the office….without a warrant.
When security guards resisted, violence reportedly ensued and the plainclothes police team withdrew, later to be replaced by a second group of uniformed police officers, this time bearing a warrant.
Local media report that after determining that the public reports were wrong and that Gameloft Indonesia wasn’t actually a gambling den, the police departed after questioning staff closely on what they were doing.
