Minnesota lawmakers in the state House may not like the state lottery’s foray into online offers without their permission (see previous reports) but they are not inclined to ban the new genre, a choice they demonstrated Tuesday in voting against a Senate-proposed ban.
That’s not to say that the issue will not resurface at some future point as politicians miffed by the lack of consultation prior to the launch of online activity exert their authority, but for now at least a ban has been avoided.
The state lotteries director has claimed that he is acting within his mandate, and that he kept the state governor briefed on the internet initiative throughout…but he will no doubt be looking over his shoulder from here on, knowing that legislators have his activities under the microscope.
