Rush Street Gaming’s Pittsburgh-based Rivers Casino surprised the industry Thursday when the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board announced that the casino had withdrawn its application for an online gambling licence.
No explanation for the withdrawal has so far been offered, leading to speculation that Rivers may have decided to focus on sports betting, where it also has an application pending with the Board.
The withdrawal does not leave Rush Street unrepresented on the Pennsylvania online gambling scene; the company’s Sugarhouse Casino has also applied for one of the very expensive ($10 million) licenses.
Our readers will recall that Sugarhouse has been active online in neighbouring New Jersey for the past two years through its brand PlaySugarhouse.
