In a move which some currency experts are interpreting as a predecessor to a wider initiative against the Bitcoin virtual currency, Russia’s Internet overseer Roskomnadzor has ISP-blacklisted certain Bitcoin websites.
Russian federal law provides ample justification for such a move, with Article 27 clearly stating that the rouble is Russia’s sole legal currency, and that the introduction or use of any other monetary substitute – including cyber-currencies – is expressly prohibited.
