Russian authorities have clamped down on an illegal online gambling operation that is estimated to have brought in 50 million rubles ($1.5 million) per day, the Russian Ministry of the Interior said Wednesday.
The illegal operation was allegedly carried out in Russia and abroad under the guise of bookmaking by an un-named operator who holds a retail estate of 900 betting offices in Russia.
According to the statement, the operator created an offshore website which involved a large number of players including minors. Wins were paid out from the bookmaker’s betting shop.
Police confiscated server equipment containing a player database, draft notes and other documents during search operations at the bookmakers’ Moscow office.
