Google’s apology to Russia’s Federal Anti-Monopoly Service for letting gambling adverts slip through the net (see previous reports) has been followed by the news from the Tass agency that the Russians have imposed a fine of “$1.6 thousand” for the offence.
That’s petty cash for the internet giant and constitutes a mild slap on the wrist for the error, which the Anti-Monopoly Service described as “…the distribution of gambling, their organizers and related services in the Google search engine on the territory of the Russian Federation”.
Earlier in December, the service announced that it had found illegal advertisements of online casinos on the Google search engine. The regulator has warned Google and its Russia-registered branch to curb violations of the law on advertisements.
