Senior Democratic Party politician Senator Harry Reid (75) suffered broken ribs and facial bones when an exercise machine collapsed at his home in Nevada, reports Associated Press.
Reid’s office issued a statement confirming that the senator was kept in hospital overnight following the injury, and that the accident happened when an elastic exercise band broke, hitting Reid in the face and causing him to fall and further injure himself.
“Senator Reid will return to Washington this weekend and be in the office Tuesday as the Senate prepares to reconvene. His doctors expect a full recovery,” his office said.
Keeping fit has resulted in other injuries to Reid, the news agency reports. In May 2011, he dislocated a shoulder and suffered a contusion above his left eye when he slipped after an early morning run in the rain, and in October 2012 he suffered rib and hip contusions in a chain-reaction car crash.
