The Silversands online gambling group, arguably one of the most highly advertised in the South African market, faces a location crisis following legal and political developments at home and abroad.
Earlier this year, the company paused its extensive television advertising campaigns and player services after a South African Judge ruled that until the South African Government promulgated laws to the contrary, online gambling remained illegal in the country.
More recently, moves by the Government of Cyprus, where the company also has a presence, to outlaw internet gambling have presented it with a problem of where to locate. The banning law is currently with the European Commission for approval but is expected to receive a positive response and be returned to the Cyprus Parliament for final passage in the very near future.
