Recently adopted legislation has empowered Slovakia’s Ministry of Finance to tackle illegal online gambling with the release of the first of a weekly list of banned websites due out July 17, 2017.
“The global gambling market has developed dynamically in recent years,” said Rado Kuru, State Secretary of the Slovak Finance Ministry, TASR newswire reports. “Legislation has reacted to an expansion of gambling in virtual space and has brought new challenges in terms of supervision.”
According to TASR, once identified, the Finance Ministry, will call on companies to shut down operations it deems illegal in the Slovakian market.
Failure to comply will see those operators added to a blacklist and the courts approached for an injunction to block said sites and all related payment transactions.
A hefty fine for non-compliance of up to Euro 500,000 will be imposed, Patrícia Macíková, spokesperson for the Ministry said.
