A brand new social betting concept involving groups of friends relying on each other’s soccer savvy and knowledge to win cash has been unveiled by Irish start-up BragBet to coincide with the Euro 2012 football championships currently running in Ukraine.
The BragBet Euro 2012 contest takes the form of a beta trial for a wider launch ahead of the new football season, and involves teams of up to six friends or who take turns each day to place bets on matches in the tournament. No cash will change hands during Euro 2012, but cash prizes totalling Euro 2,012 will be on offer, including Euro 1,000 for the best performing team.
“Online betting has never been a very social activity and we want to change all that by integrating it with the very best aspects of social media,” said Phil Riordan, CEO of BragBet.
“The BragBet Euro 2012 contest is our opportunity to trial the platform for the first time, introducing a new kind of fun, interactive betting that will particularly appeal to the younger market.”
Team members will be encouraged to post their daily choices on the social networking site, agree or disagree with their friends’ choices and boast about their successes, while their opponents will also be able to see how each team is performing on the BragBet website, creating a race to the final as the tournament progresses,
“For Euro 2012 we’re offering BragBet as a way to let our players have fun and win some cash prizes,” added Riordan. “Later on in the year we’ll be giving our players the chance to bet with their own, and their friends, money.”
When the BragBet site launches for real money players will have the option to place monetary bets on the performance of their team, meaning that the team captains are effectively betting with their friends’ cash.
