The publication Pocket Gamer illustrated the growing popularity of social casino games this week in an article on the current rankings of iPhone games in the United States.
The publication noted that despite its niche positioning social casino games punch above their weight, with 16 games – five of them in the top 50 and two in the top 25 – among the Top 100 grossing games list, which features massively popular traditional offerings like Clash of Clans and Angry Birds.
And it appears that all of the 16 social casino titles are based on virtual slots.
The article lists Israeli firm Playtika, which was recently acquired by a Chinese consortium for $4.4 billion (see previous report) as the highest ranked of the social casino games suppliers with its Slotomania, World Series of Poker and Caesars Slots.
Slotomania has been particularly successful, launching in late 2011 and consistently appearing in Top 12 and Top 25 lists over the last five years, with WSOP and Caesars Slots also showing longevity in their ability to generate revenues.
Pocket Gamer also singles out Big Pond with its Big Fish casino games launched in 2012 and still high in the charts, along with House of Fun’s Slot Casino; Huuuge Casino from the Polish company of the same title; DoubleU Casino by South Korea’s DoubleU; and Scatter Slots by Murka in the Ukraine.
