Social gaming giant launches new network

Media and other interested parties gathered in San Francisco this week for the second annual Zynga Unleashed presentation, showcasing the social gaming giant’s future plans and products.

The company’s launch of its new social gaming slot “Elite Slots” has already enjoyed wide publicity but was given the cheerleader treatment by company executives anyway, along with some rousing predictions for the future based on numbers from the present.

For example, one ‘suit’ predicted that the social gaming industry will double in size within the next year, basing in part his calculation on the fact that Zynga’s poker game on Facebook is currently generating more than 38 000 hands a minute.

But it was probably the promotion of the new Zynga With Friends unified gaming platform that attracted the most attention with its Facebook and mobile iOS and Android accessibility and multi-player potential.

The network will apparently serve to connect Zynga players everwhere, regardless of where they are playing, strengthening the company’s involvement in this burgeoning sector.
