The South Korean national government is considering a late-2016 proposal that the national lottery be permitted to start online operations, accessing a wider audience, providing more convenience to users, and building revenues.
According to the Korea Times, the online concept was originally proposed to government by the Korean Lottery Commission last year, and the Ministry of Strategy and Finance confirmed this week that the idea is now under review.
The original proposal suggested that online sales should initially be restricted to 5 percent of the total wagers, and that players must prove that they are over age 18 years; there are also provisions limiting the number of bets an individual could make.
