The Philippines police in Cebu City report the shutdown of an illegal online gambling ring based in a house in the city, and the arrest of nine South Korean nationals on illegal online gambling charges, with two of those detained reportedly also wanted for gambling offences in South Korea.
The raiding party seized a number of computers and other evidence to assist in further investigations.
Nine other suspects in the gambling ring evaded arrest and are currently being sought by police.
Police spokesman Chief Superintendent Jonathan Cabal told local reporters that the online gambling ring had been under police surveillance for the last two months. It had been active for about a year, he said, accepting business from online punters as far afield as South Korea, Australia and the US, with some individual wagers exceeding $55,000.
