Residents will be eagerly anticipating the draw of Spain’s state lottery El Gordo “The Fat One” on December 22, 2108 with an expected total prize pool of Euro 2.38 Billion and a first prize of Euro 680 million which would be shared among 164 ticket holders with that winning number.
The El Gordo, a Spanish institution and the world’s second oldest lottery first played in 1812, published 2016 stats that show 75.9 percent of the 34 million Spanish residents aged between 18 and 75 played the Spanish Christmas lottery.
One ticket or billete costs a hefty Euro200, but hopefuls can buy a tenth of a ticket or décimo for Euro 20. This can be further split to smaller portions – participaciones – costing Euro 1 each.
