Millions of Spaniards and other European punters will be avidly watching the spectacular annual lottery draw for prizes totalling around Euro 2.4 billion.
The televised annual drawing of Spain’s El Gordo (The Fat One) Christmas lottery will again grab the attention of millions of hopeful ticket buyers tonight (Friday) in a spectacular 08h00 GMT presentation that includes the traditional singing of winning numbers by school children.
This year up to Euro 2.4 billion will be awarded in prizes, often benefitting entire communities across Spain. The lottery is ranked as the world’s largest in terms of total prize-money involved.
This year the top prizes will be worth Euro 400,000, heading a list of smaller rewards. Standard tickets cost Euro 20 and people traditionally chip in and buy shares in several tickets with friends, family or work colleagues.
