Spain’s gambling act, approved by the Congress of Deputies last month, was promulgated in the official Government Gazette on 28 May 2011 reports trade association AEDAPI.
The association reports “… the text lays the groundwork for the creation of a tax rate for gambling houses (25% over revenues for the most part), a licensing system based on administrative licenses and a system transition for operators on advertising, sponsorships and penalties. Furthermore, regulation will establish a number of safeguards to protect minors and people at risk”.
The Spanish General Directorate of Gaming, will now get to work defining the specific regulations of the Gambling Act while approval from the European Commission is awaited.
