Spanish regulator Dirección General de Ordenación del Juego (DGOJ) has reportedly gazetted a new licensing window for the growing online gambling market – its third such tender opportunity since legalisation back in 2011.
The regulator has revealed that the opportunity will remain open to suitable operators for a year, and that applications are welcomed.
The Spanish online gambling market has much to offer aspirant licensees; in the most recent (third) quarter licensed revenue soared almost 37 percent to Euro 140.5 million year-on-year and 16.6 percent compared to the second quarter.
In a statement, the regulator said that properly regulated and licensed online gambling ensures that the activity is sustainable and an essential fit with responsible gambling.
The statement asserted that the new licensing window ensures both market competition and an appropriate level of consumer protection, empowering operators with proven honesty and viability to offer their services to the market.
