Spanish taxman learns from Swedish counterpart

News on 20 Dec 2012

It appears that the Swedish taxman’s tactic of using poker information sites to track down high-earning players and tax them is being replicated by tax authorities in Spain.

According to a report on the Spanish poker information site Poker-Red, tax investigators have used the Hendon Mob public database of live tournament results to monitor the earnings of at least three top players.

Poker-Red notes that the Hendon Mob website carries extensive information on tournament results and earnings, along with player rankings, record-breaking earnings and competition results going back almost four decades, conveniently detailed by nation and tournament.

Online poker sites falling under the authority of the Spanish regulator can be ordered to provide information on individual players by the regulator in the interests of compliance with the country’s tax laws.
