Official DGOA figures just released this week in Spain, show that there has been a welcome uptick in the online gambling market in that country, with year-on-year Q1-2015 turnover up 24.5 percent to almost Euro 2 billion.
The statistics show that GGR in the first quarter of this year reached Euro 77.4 million, up 18 percent on the preceding quarter, and better by 13.4 percent on Q1-2014.
The number of active players per month also grew, reaching 393,029, a year-on-year increase of 10.4 percent.
By contribution, betting delivered 50.2 percent of revenues; online poker 25.2 percent; online casino gaming 23.7 percent; bingo 0.9 percent and other elements 0.06 percent.
The approval of the regulator for online slots to be added to online casino inventories this year is likely to further boost revenues, hopefully offsetting the impact of a stagnating online poker vertical.
The report notes the licensing for Spanish internet operations of Eurobet, Betclic, SKS365, Betcris, Novomatic, Gauselmann, Recreativos Franco, NetEnt and Bally Interactive.
PokerStars, 888, bet365, William Hill and Bwin continue to dominate the m arket, between them holding 90 percent market share.
