A Bear Group Limited, SpinGenie.com TV ad and website promotion has been censured by the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) for appealing to under-18’s.
The TV ad invites viewers into a “world of magic and fun featuring animated coins, treasure and a mythical island while the website promotion showed an animated dog called Spin along with images of games such as “Pixies of the Forest”, “Fluffy Favourites”, “Jack and the Beanstalk”, “Transformers Battle For Cybertron”, “Piggy Payout” and “Pirate Princess”.
The ASA found the marketing material to be in breach of the BCAP Code that states that ads for gambling must not be likely to be of particular appeal to under-18s, especially by reflecting or being associated with youth culture.
“We noted that the ad did not have an adult theme, and although we acknowledged that it might appeal to some adults, we considered that it was reminiscent of a child’s video game”.
The material may not appear again in their current form, the authority said.
Other ads up for scrutiny included Paddy Power, Bet365 and Foxy Bingo, however, the ASA dismissed complaints against these.
