Sportech inks deal with South African based Phumelela

The UK pools and tote gaming operator Sportech plc has inked an agreement with Phumelela Gold International Limited, South Africa’s largest pools, tote and horseracing company, that will allow customers of both companies to bet into each other’s football pools products.
The range of products involved includes Sportech’s Classic Pools product, with a weekly GBP3 million top prize, Premier 10 – The Official Pool of the Premier League – and Phumelela’s international Soccer6 pool.
A Sportech spokesman said this week that the agreement should be fully operational in August 2011 for the start of the next UK football season.
The deal comes after continued modernisation of Sportech’s football pools technology and product range, which has already seen distribution partnerships with major UK bookmaking operators including Ladbrokes across its retail estate and online website.
Ian Penrose, chief executive of Sportech commented: “Having completed the acquisition of Scientific Games Racing only a few months ago Sportech is now one of the world’s leading pools and tote gaming companies. This important agreement with Phumelela allows us to extend our UK football pools product range into South Africa and further internationalise our customer base.”
