A new study published by the Southern Cross University in Australia claims that punters Downunder who bet over the internet are more likely to take bigger risks while betting than other gamblers.
The survey found that 80 percent of Aussies who gambled online were betting on racing and sports, with the remaining 20 percent using casino gambling websites.
Dr Sally Gainsbury headed up the study and told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation that more and more people are betting on sports via mobile phone applications.
“Research shows people look at their mobile first thing in the morning and last thing at night, [and even] take it to the bathroom,” she said. “This is something that allows you to take a bet anytime the mood strikes.”
More than half the people surveyed indicated they were spending more money due to the ease of making credit card payments over the internet, Dr. Gainsbury said.
