Staten Island bookie pleads guilty to promoting gambling

Staten Island resident Charles Cicalo (49) pleaded guilty to first-degree promoting gambling and will forfeit $1.3 Million in exchange for a one to three year prison sentence as opposed to the 25-year sentence he was facing reported Queens District Attorney Richard A. Brown.

Cicolo reportedly accumulated over $2.7 million in illegal multi-state bets utilising two sports gambling websites crownsports.com and jazzsports.com.

The bust in April 2010 netted 25 affiliates along with Cicolo which included fire-fighter Matthew Fopeano, sanitation worker Robert Ackrish and road repair worker Michael Labetti, who have also pleaded guilty according to the New York Post.

Outstanding arrest warrants remain for Michael Flynn III, one of Cicalo’s “super agents”, and David Carazo a money collector.
