According to a report in the publication Ars Technica this week, Google’s Youtube is about to become a competitor to Twitch (popular in online poker live streaming) which is currently the Internet’s biggest live streaming platform and was bought by Amazon last year for almost a billion dollars.
Youtube Live will reportedly feature live gaming and e-sports content in particular, and in preparation for its launch the company has apparently engaged more than 50 additional live streaming- experienced engineers.
Informed industry observers estimate that the launch could be as soon as June this year at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles.
Neither Google nor Youtube have commented on the reports.
