Swedish monopoly in bid for casino operator

Swedish state-owned horse racing operator AB Trav och Galopp (ATG) has signed a deal to acquire Danish casino and sports betting operator Ecosys A/S in an initiative aimed at being prepared for changes in national gambling laws in Sweden that will liberalise the monopoly-dominated market.

The agreement is conditional on the final outcome of the new laws in 2019, and whether, as currently proposed, monopoly firms will be permitted to extend their product offering in competition with an expected influx of private operators.
