The Swedish National Audit Office Riksrevisionens has termed the country’s existing gambling framework as inadequate and is calling for a newly-regulated environment that includes an efficient licencing system and mechanisms to counter illegal and unregulated gambling as well as a clear framework on marketing and advertising.
The audit declared a growth in gaming volume of approximately 16 percent between 2003 and 2011 with the legal market’s gross sales amounting to around SEK 42 billion in 2011.
Riksrevisionens Auditor General Claes Norgren recommended the Swedish Government embark on a coordinated effort that would effectively address gambling regulations along with research and support for gambling addiction and problem gambling.
