Sweden’s gambling authority Spelinspektionen has reminded authorised operators of their license obligations in ensuring they are connected to the self-exclusion register Spelpaus saying checks against the register before play is permitted is a non-negotiable.
The statement follows recent reports in which Swedish players were able to play on numerous licensee websites despite excluding themselves on Spelpaus.
The authority detailed media reports on the problems with the implementation along with its own investigations in which it discovered licensees without an active connection to the scheme still allowing self-excluded players to play.
Spelinspektionen warned it will act against licensed operators who do not follow the self-exclusion requirements, no excuses and no exceptions. Those who continue will either face a warning – which may be accompanied by financial penalties – or withdrawal of that operator’s license.
