The Swedish Gaming Inspectorate Spelinspektionen has begun investigations into several operators following complaints and confusion over the myriad of bonus offers available to Swedish players.
The authority warned licensees not to make unreasonable interpretations of the Gaming Law.
“Unauthorized bonus offers risk attracting players who have problems maintaining their gambling in a healthy way,” a statement from Spelinspektionen reads. “The Gaming Inspectorate is very serious about this and has therefore initiated investigations into several companies regarding their bonus offers.”
Clarifying the law, Spelinspektionen said “It is clear that a licensee can only offer bonuses the first time a customer plays at the licensee’s game. If the license holder violates the rules, the authority can intervene with high penalties. The license can also be revoked.
