Swiss and U.S. governments split criminal assets from BetOnSports forfeiture

News on 24 Nov 2015

Criminal assets worth CHF50 million ($49.1 million), belonging to BetonSports founder Gary Kaplan have been split between Switzerland and the US, Switzerland’s justice ministry announced Tuesday.

The illegally gained revenue had been frozen in Swiss bank accounts since 2009 when Kaplan was sentenced to more than four years in prison for racketeering, conspiracy and violating the US Wire Wager Act (see previous reports).

Kaplan and other BetonSports executives agreed to the forfeiture in a plea agreement.

The US Treasury Department proposed the split with Swiss authorities in 2014 based on the assistance given to the US during the investigation said swissinfo.ch.
